Bio
Richard “Rick” Tachuk is an experienced practitioner in cross-border trade and investment whocurrently serves as the President and CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce in Canada(AmCham Canada). Representing the views of major U.S. and Canadian companies on keyissues, Rick works closely with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, the CanadianChambers of Commerce and other national business associations as an advocate andspokesperson for the expansion and promotion of U.S. – Canada trade. As CEO, he alsorepresents AmCham Canada internationally at the Association of American Chambers ofCommerce of Latin America (AACCLA) interfacing with Chambers throughout the WesternHemisphere.
Over his 30-year career in the public and private sectors Rick has held a number of executivepositions including President and CEO of DCI Enable, a publicly-traded Canadian E-businesssolutions firm and President and CEO of the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists. He is also the Founder and President of Electric Strategies, Inc., an Ottawa-based public affairsagency specializing in cross-border issues management. He was also a co-founder of ExpocorpExhibitions, Inc. which operated many of the national capital region’s largest business andconsumer trade shows including: The Ottawa Business Show, The Smart City Summit, the HRSolutions Show, Capital Hospitality, the Ottawa Industrial Show and the Ottawa Ski andSnowboard Show.
In the public sector Rick served for over a decade with the U.S. Foreign Commercial Service asthe United States International Trade Administration’s Senior Commercial Specialist in Canadaresponsible for export promotion activities, investment promotion and trade policy. Prior to thishe was employed as an International Marketing Specialist with the Government of Canada’sBureau of Management Consulting and earlier worked as a Research Associate in theInternational Business Research Centre of the Conference Board of Canada.Rick currently serves on the Municipality of North Grenville’s CEDAC advisory committee andthe advisory board of Hire Immigrants Ottawa.
He is also a member of the Board of Directors ofthe Grenville Community Futures Development Corporation. Rick holds a Master’s degree inInternational Management from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at CarletonUniversity and has completed post-graduate studies at the School of Advanced InternationalStudies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University and the U.S. Foreign Service Institute in Washington,D.C. Rick also holds a Bachelor degree in Business Administration (Marketing) and Economicsfrom Bishop’s University. He is a frequent guest lecturer at the Sprott School of BusinessInternational MBA program in Ottawa and has authored numerous articles on internationaltrade and related business issues in both Canada and the United States.
